Cupping Therapy uses cups as tools to create negative pressure on the underlying tissues. This creates suction, or lift, on the area being treated, and that suction pulls the tissues up into the cup. Cupping Therapy has similar benefits as massage, some of which are:
Cupping therapy can be used in addition with Massage Therapy, Fascial Stretch Therapy, or as a stand-alone therapy. Like massage, the suction created by the cups is controlled by the therapist. The suction can range anywhere from light to deep, and communication between the therapist and client should remain open throughout the session. Like deep tissue massage, deeper suction is recommended only to clients that have had previous cupping experience. Clients may experience some discoloration caused by blood being pulled to the surface of the skin. These marks are NOT BRUISES and may last up to two weeks.
