MASSAGE THERAPY

Massage Therapy uses tools, such as the practitioner's hands, forearms, thumbs, elbows, etc., to manipulate the client's soft tissues- muscles, fascia, tendons, and ligaments.  The practitioner uses different pressures, holds, and movements of these tools throughout the session.  The purpose of this is to help enhance the client's health.  Massage therapy is known to:
  • reduce stress and anxiety
  • reduce muscle pain
  • increase range-of-motion, flexibility, and ease of movement
  • reduce muscle tension and muscle stiffness
  • increase blood circulation and aid in the movement of lymph
  • decrease healing of soft tissue injuries
  • decrease scar tissue
  • help with postural issues
  • help promote feelings of well-being
  • increase awareness of mind-body connection

Swedish Massage is what most people think of when they think of massage.  It uses long, lighter strokes to target the superficial layers of the muscles.  A therapist might combine these lighter strokes with passive stretching or movement of the joints.  Swedish Massage is used to promote general relaxation, relieve muscle tension, increase circulation and improve range-of-motion.  Since stress management plays such a large part in a person's overall well-being, Swedish Massage techniques are incorporated in every massage session.

Deep Tissue Massage is a slower, deeper form of Swedish.  Deep Tissues is used to help correct chronic patterns of muscular tension.  Here, the practitioner focuses on specific parts of the body and applies a greater pressure to those areas to help reduce muscular tension.  It is important to note that Mobile Performance Therapy does not believe in the "no pain, no gain" mantra.  We feel that a client needs to be relaxed throughout a session in order for the therapist to work as deeply as they can and not fight the client's muscles.  Yes, there will be times that the massage may feel uncomfortable but the client should never experience any pain.  Communication between the therapist and client is always open during a session.

Sports Massage uses a combination of Swedish and Deep Tissue Massage to help athletes in their training, recovery and injury prevention.  It is sport specific and different techniques can be used based on the athlete's training.

Therapeutic Massage combines massage techniques with the goal of helping a client work through their specific issues.  It is focused more on movement and pain management.

There are a few conditions that a client may have that would not allow them to get a massage.  If you have questions please feel free to contact us or your doctor.

What Our Clients Are Saying

As a marathon runner I have had increasing pain in my hips, hamstrings and low back.  I tried 6 weeks of physical therapy,  massage, and lots of ibuprofen. Stretch therapy was the answer! after only a few sessions, I had less pain and improved my performance.  Thanks to Stephanie I'm ready to run my next marathon."
